Statement: Andy Marlowe is an artist, writer, and lifelong music devotee. In this solo exhibition, they combine painting, video, and embroidery to explore the cultural residue of the 1970s Sunset Strip groupie scene. Extracting faces from vintage music magazines and symbols from biblical apocrypha, they collide images of devotion, desire, and decay to explore the girls and women who stood on the border between muse and spectacle. With tenderness and urgency, Marlowe stages a reckoning with fame, femininity, and the fraught legacy of girlhood on the edge of stardom.
Bio: Andy Marlowe is an artist and writer from the Forgotten Coast of Florida. They received their BFA in Creative Writing and Studio Art from Florida State University and served as an apprentice at the Fabric Worksho and Museum in Philadelphia. They are currently based between Brooklyn and Queens.
